Joy

Ever ethereal

Stands some distance away

in front of me
Tilts her head
Stares quizzically

Where have you been? I whisper

Looking for you, she replies

She smiles tentatively
Looks ahead

Stares back

She invites me to embrace

With a subtle nod she gestures forward

I step cautiously

slowly

Unsure of this fleeting companion

She’s left me before

without notice

She looks back

And I follow
