Memories of things I’d never known

Photo by Laura Fuhrman on Unsplash

In the dark

I remember

Things I never knew

Places I’ve never been

Friends I never made

In the shadows

I recall

Adventures I never had

Wit I never possessed

Rendezvous that never occurred

Over and over

Until they are etched in my mind’s eye

Over and over

Until they are mine

Until in the light

I recount the memories

Of things I’d never known

And you listen

And you believe

And I wonder

Who is the real me?
