Nostalgia — a poem of deceitful longing

Photo by 褚 天成 on Unsplash

Nostalgia

tastes bitter on my tongue

as it smolders in my hand

luring me with seductive fictions

to wander aimlessly

through spidery catacombs

and

challenge the sticky web

of its entanglements

Like Pandora

it beckons me

to lift the latch

and revel in the promised ecstasy

of old, embellished truth

and

don the shackles

of ancient enslavements

Deeper I burrow

in bygone fantasies

as the curtain draws closed

and the mist slowly settles
