Resurrected

As the last wisp of promise slips through my fingers

circles the drain

And disappears

I stand defeated

Alone

Drenched in my own tears

With my hands dirty

And my feet bare

My soul in tatters

I reach down

Into the ashes

Fumbling for a shred

Of dashed dream

My fingers graze a glimmer

Of hope

Gingerly

Tenderly

Cautiously

I cup it in my hands

And whisper to it softly

I will nurture you

And it whispers back

I will make you strong again
