Secrets

Secrets

Bubbling in the cauldron

of memory

Splash their acid bath

on my naked soul,

Rake their thorny claws

across my heart

Opening the brutal scars of yesterday

Branding me with pain

and leaving me

to writhe in the agony

of my own deception.

Secrets

Laughing at me

from behind the mask

Whisper their icy terror

in my aching ear

Echo their macabre psalm

through the corners of my mind

Festering the hot infection of lies

Infirming me with malignity

and leaving me

to peer over my shoulder

with dread.
