… society's norms is not a given and it actually very difficult for many people, if not most people. When the cultural conscioiusness is assumed to be "right" instead of arbitrary, "the unconsciousness in consciousness," as Ashley Montegu described it, intelligent people can wind up in confined in involuntary treatment for being outside an agreed on normal, as was common the old Soviet Union.
