That's really the thing about personality disorders - they are such a deep-seated part of the person that it affects everyone around them. I'm writing another article on why these are so hard to treat that encompasses this, starting with it being truly hard to define them.

In graduate school my abnormal psych prof once said this - "How do you know if you have someone with a personality disorder? When you see their name in your appointment book you sigh and groan." This was, of course, sarcastic and gallows humor (he was an incredibly compassionate therapist). But it speaks to the difficulty in realtionships with individuals with these disorders.
