The Day Before

Photo by Rainier Ridao on Unsplash

The day before

Was just a day

We didn’t savor it as we should have

We didn’t know

It was just a day

The day before

We did normal things

Knowing, for sure, that we would do normal things the next day, and the next, and the next

Knowing that so thoroughly that we did not think it, we just knew it

It was just a day

The day before

We were young

And innocent

We didn’t know what the world could do

In an instant

To make us different

From how we were the day before

The day after

How we longed for

The day before
