What Was Left

Photo by Jordy Meow on Unsplash

My eyes dart across the ruin
Landing briefly on a shiny object here
A glitter there
Fools gold
A mirage
Just embers
Of a wild burn
Pieces of a life
That is no more
Random memories
Disjointed and meaningless
Without the golden threads that link them together in a narrative that makes sense
Broken pieces
That don’t fit together
Shining but shattered
I turn and walk away
Nothing to see here
